Personal Space

Hello,

Let’s talk for a moment about personal space. Personal space is defined as the region surrounding a person which they regard as psychologically theirs. It generally measures although it varies, approximately 24.5 inches around a persons body. If a persons personal space is violated, it generally leads to quick action to retain that space regardless of who is the violator.

Now let’s talk about Jack. Jack has no understanding for personal space. He is not a believer in boundaries or respecting a person’s personal space. He believes we are all a pack and we should share everything! Living with Jack, I often find  myself sharing a comfy place to rest without Jack ever asking if he can join me. No, instead Jack makes a point to “create” a space even if that space doesn’t exist. I frequently find myself sleeping on the couch only to wake to a 90lb snoring beast resting on top of me.

Jack is also very vocal. He loves to express himself vocally. However, once again, he does this with no regard to personal space. He loves to talk to us with his nose and mouth literally within an inch of our faces. It doesn’t matter if he is eating or has just had water or a rawhide, he is right there in your FACE! Of course he is speaking to us at the top of his lungs which only helps to make the experience that much more enjoyable. We have found that when engaging Jack, it is best to be standing so that you literally have the upper advantage.
